Meet our Team

We've been running SEO hosting services for over 10 years now, working with hundreds of agencies and affiliate marketers. Our team handles the technical stuff so your sites can focus on ranking.

Ryan Alavi

Founder / CEO

Ryan started SmartSEOHosting after getting fed up with the hosting options available to SEO professionals. He's got degrees in Electronics Engineering and ICT, plus certifications from Cisco and Oracle. Before this, he worked on projects for companies like Telstra, AGL, ANZ, Amazon, and Microsoft.

His master's thesis was on using AI for stock market predictions - pretty ahead of its time back then. These days he applies that same analytical thinking to figuring out what Google's algorithms are looking for in hosting setups.

When he's not dealing with servers and IP allocations, Ryan flies planes. Real ones, not just the virtual kind (though he does spend way too much time on MS Flight Simulator too). Aviation and hosting have more in common than you'd think - both require attention to detail and backup plans.

Ray Mickelsen

Senior Engineer

Ray runs our engineering team and keeps everything running smoothly. He coordinates between our in-house developers and the external teams we work with across different time zones. Not an easy job when you're managing 120+ datacenters.

He's been with us for years and has that rare combination of technical depth and people skills. Ray can debug a complex server issue in the morning and then explain the solution to a non-technical client in the afternoon without making them feel stupid.

The guy's always available for questions. Whether it's troubleshooting a weird cPanel issue or figuring out why certain IPs are getting flagged, Ray usually has an answer or knows who does.

Declan Greco

Technology Engineer

Declan knows web hosting inside and out. He's been doing this since before cloud computing was even a thing, which gives him perspective on what actually works long-term versus what's just marketing hype.

He writes a lot of our backend code in PHP and Go, particularly the stuff that handles IP allocation and manages our relationships with different datacenters. Declan also spends time with his grandkids, teaching them programming basics and collecting vinyl records.

Having someone with his experience means we don't fall for every new trend that comes along. Declan's seen enough hosting fads come and go to know what's worth implementing and what's just noise.

Joshua Barić

Web Hosting Engineer

Joshua handles the day-to-day server management stuff. When sites go down or there's a weird cPanel issue, he's usually the first person to jump on it. Fast response times matter in this business.

He lives and breathes Linux and cPanel, which is exactly what you want in a hosting engineer. Joshua's worked on all kinds of hosting setups, from simple WordPress sites to complex multi-domain SEO networks.

Outside work, he's constantly tinkering with Raspberry Pi projects and reading sci-fi. Ask him about Star Trek and you'll get a detailed breakdown of why Deep Space Nine is underrated. The guy knows his stuff, both technically and when it comes to entertainment.

Networking Engineer

Hugo manages our networking infrastructure across all those datacenters. It's a complex job - making sure traffic routes properly and that our IP allocations don't create any footprint issues that Google might pick up on.

He's younger than most of our team but has solid experience with enterprise networking. Hugo approaches problems differently than the older guys, which often leads to creative solutions.

When he's not optimizing network routes, Hugo games pretty heavily and experiments with smart home tech. He actually applies some of the networking concepts from gaming to our hosting setup, particularly around latency optimization.

Billing

Neda handles all our billing and accounting. In a business where we're dealing with multiple currencies and payment processors across different countries, having someone who keeps the books straight is crucial.

She's also the person clients usually talk to when there are payment questions or billing issues. Neda's good at explaining the technical billing stuff without making it more complicated than it needs to be.

Outside work, she's into hiking and photography. Brings back some pretty impressive landscape shots from her trips.

Nate Ketilsson

Networking Engineer

Nate's our other networking engineer, working alongside Hugo to keep everything connected properly. He's got his CCNA and Linux Professional certifications, which come in handy when dealing with complex routing issues.

The guy knows Linux and cPanel backwards, which is essential since most of our infrastructure runs on those platforms. Nate stays current with updates and security patches across all our systems.

He mountain bikes in his spare time and builds tech projects. Sometimes combines both interests - like the GPS tracking system he built for his bike using a Raspberry Pi and cellular modem.

Aidan B

Tech Engineer

Aidan writes code in Go, Node.js, and Rust - languages that help us build fast, reliable tools for managing hosting infrastructure. He's particularly good at creating automation scripts that save us hours of manual work.

He attends tech meetups and coding challenges regularly, which keeps him up to date on new approaches we might want to implement. Always has ideas for improving our processes or building new tools.

Having someone who focuses on modern programming languages means we can build better internal tools and stay ahead of technical debt that plague a lot of hosting companies.
